Who We Are

The Middletown Township Police Auxiliary is an official volunteer law enforcement support organization affiliated with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJ OEM). Our members are ordinary citizens with an extraordinary commitment — to serve, protect, and give back to the community they call home.

Auxiliary Officers are uniformed, badged, and trained volunteers who supplement the full-time officers of the Middletown Township Police Department. While they are not paid law enforcement officers, they undergo rigorous training, adhere to strict standards of conduct, and are an integral part of the public safety network in Middletown Township.

Our History and Purpose

A community's safety is a shared responsibility

Police auxiliary organizations have a long history in the United States, born from the idea that a community's safety is a shared responsibility. In Middletown Township — one of the largest municipalities in New Jersey — the need for a capable, trained volunteer force has always been clear. With thousands of residents spread across a wide geographic area, major roadways, busy commercial districts, public parks, and a thriving schedule of community events, the demands on public safety personnel are significant.

The Middletown Township Police Auxiliary was established to meet those demands — bringing in civic-minded volunteers who are trained to support officers in the field and provide a visible, reassuring presence throughout the township. Rooted in the emergency management structure of the State of New Jersey, the Auxiliary is positioned to respond not just to everyday community needs, but to the full spectrum of emergencies that can affect our residents.

Our Affiliation

The Middletown Township Police Auxiliary is affiliated with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJ OEM), which oversees auxiliary police units across the state as part of New Jersey's broader public safety and emergency preparedness framework. This structure reflects the Auxiliary's core mission: to provide organized, trained support to the community — particularly in times of crisis, disaster, and large-scale emergency.

While the Auxiliary's formal affiliation is with the NJ OEM, our officers maintain a close and cooperative working relationship with the Middletown Township Police Department. Auxiliary Officers meet regularly at the Middletown Township Police Station and are equipped with police radios, ensuring seamless communication and coordination with full-time officers in the field. In practice, Auxiliary Officers work side by side with the Department day in and day out — the Auxiliary simply sits within a distinct structure designed to support emergency management at both the local and state level.

Our Members

Trained personnel trusted with real responsibility

Every member completes a full Auxiliary Police Academy before entering the field, receiving hands-on training in patrol techniques, self-defense, CPR, first aid, and more. They are not volunteers asked to simply fill a seat — they are trained personnel trusted with real responsibility.
